Overview
Valletta was built to be seen from the sea, and this 90-minute cruise on a traditional boat shows you why.
Leaving from the Sliema waterfront, you first explore Marsamxett Harbour and its creeks, with Valletta's bastions on one side and the marinas of Msida and Ta' Xbiex on the other. The boat then rounds the breakwater into the Grand Harbour, one of the finest natural harbours in the Mediterranean.
Here you pass beneath Fort St Angelo and along the waterfronts of the Three Cities, Vittoriosa (Birgu), Senglea and Cospicua, where the Knights first settled before Valletta existed. You'll also see the working dockyards and the harbour that played such a part in Malta's history, from the Great Siege of 1565 to the Second World War. A commentary explains it all as you go.
There's a bar and toilets on board, and there are several departures a day, so it fits easily into a morning or afternoon in Sliema.
