Overview
Near Falmouth, where the Martha Brae River meets the Caribbean Sea, there's a lagoon where the water lights up at night. Millions of tiny micro-organisms called dinoflagellates glow blue-green whenever the water moves, so every splash, wake and trailing hand leaves a streak of light.
The tour starts in the evening with a transfer to Glistening Waters on the edge of the Luminous Lagoon. There's time for a drink or dinner at the waterside restaurant before you board a small boat after dark. Out on the lagoon, the guide explains the science behind the glow and stirs the water so you can see it shimmer. Dip your hands over the side and watch them sparkle.
