Dunn's River Falls Climb
Overview
Dunn's River Falls is Jamaica's most famous waterfall, and the best way to see it is from the inside. The river tumbles about 55 metres over a staircase of natural limestone terraces and runs straight out onto a white-sand beach, one of very few waterfalls in the world that meet the sea.
A driver collects you from your hotel in the Ocho Rios or Runaway Bay area. At the park, an experienced guide leads your group up the falls, usually in a hand-holding human chain, from the beach to the top. You wade through cool pools, stand under small cascades and climb the rocky steps in the shade of the rainforest. The climb itself takes about an hour to an hour and a half, with stops for photos. If you'd rather stay dry, a path with stairs runs alongside.
Afterwards, relax on the beach at the foot of the falls or browse the craft market before your transfer back. Wear swimwear under your clothes and bring water shoes, or buy a pair at the entrance.
