Overview
Bob Marley was born in Nine Mile, a small village in the green hills of St Ann, on 6 February 1945, and he chose to be buried there. A visit to his birthplace is a must for reggae fans, and a chance to see the rural Jamaica that shaped his early songs.
You're collected from your hotel on the north coast and driven inland through farming villages and hills. At Nine Mile, a local guide shows you around the site, which is run by members of the Marley family. See the small house where Bob lived as a boy, the rock he used as a pillow while looking for inspiration, and the marble mausoleum where he rests, inside a small church built in the traditional Ethiopian style. Expect Rasta colours everywhere, plenty of stories and, often, music.
After the tour there's time to browse the gift shop or buy lunch before the drive back to the coast.
