Overview
The three Borromean Islands sit just off Stresa, and this hop-on hop-off boat lets you see them at your own pace. Boats run about every 30 minutes, with a geolocated audio commentary in English and Italian as you cruise.
Start with Isola Madre, the furthest out, known for its botanical garden, where peacocks and pheasants wander among exotic plants and the villa holds a collection of puppets. Then stop at Isola dei Pescatori, the only one of the islands lived on all year, for lunch on a lakeside terrace and a stroll through its lanes. Finish on Isola Bella, where the Borromeo family's Baroque palace rises above terraced Italian gardens.
You choose how long to spend on each island, and whether to visit two or all three. Entry to the palaces and gardens is paid separately, so you only buy what you want to see.

Yes. To fit all three in, leave Isola Madre by about 2.50pm and follow the order Madre, Pescatori, Bella. Ask on board for the time of the last boat back.
In 2026 the palaces and gardens of Isola Bella and Isola Madre are open from 12 March to 8 November.
Comfortable shoes, some cash for the landing fee and lunch, and sun protection. Luggage, bikes and large bags aren't allowed on board.
