Uluwatu Temple and Kecak Fire Dance at Sunset
Overview
Pura Luhur Uluwatu is a Hindu sea temple on the south-western tip of Bali, perched on a limestone cliff about 70 metres above the Indian Ocean. It is one of the island's most important temples, and the best place to see the Kecak dance.
You are collected from your hotel in the afternoon and driven to the Bukit Peninsula. Walk the clifftop paths around the temple, with long views along the coast. The temple is home to a troop of monkeys that are known for snatching sunglasses and phones, so keep your things close. As the sun starts to set, take your seat in the open-air amphitheatre for the Kecak and fire dance. A circle of men chants "cak-cak-cak" in rhythm while dancers act out a story from the Ramayana, with the ocean and the setting sun behind them.
Afterwards, you can add a seafood dinner on the sand at Jimbaran Bay before heading back to your hotel.
