Seville Day Trip from the Algarve
Overview
Seville is only a couple of hours east of the Algarve by road, and a day there makes a great change from the beach. An air-conditioned coach collects you early from the Algarve and crosses the Guadiana river into Andalusia.
In Seville, a local guide walks you through the city's highlights: the cathedral, the largest Gothic church in the world, with its Giralda bell tower; the walls and gardens of the Real Alcázar, a royal palace still in use today; and the narrow, flower-filled lanes of the old Santa Cruz quarter. You finish in María Luisa Park, at the curved, tiled Plaza de España, built for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929.
Then you have about three hours of free time for tapas, shopping or a monument visit of your own before the coach takes you back. Remember that Spain is one hour ahead of Portugal.
