Krabi Four Islands by Longtail Boat
Overview
The four-islands trip is the classic day out from Ao Nang, and the traditional longtail boat, with its long propeller shaft and garlands on the bow, is part of the fun. The islands are close together, so you spend more time on the sand than at sea.
Start at Phra Nang Cave Beach on the Railay peninsula, a curve of white sand under towering cliffs. Then head to Koh Tup, where at low tide a sandbar joins it to Koh Kai and neighbouring Koh Mor, so you can walk between islands. Snorkel off Koh Kai, known as Chicken Island for the rock that looks like a chicken's head. The last stop is Koh Poda, with a long white beach and a limestone stack standing just offshore, where lunch is usually served.
Boats leave from Ao Nang beach in the morning and return in the afternoon.

Frequently asked questions
Both are available. The longtail is slower and more traditional; a speedboat gives you a little more time at each island. Ask us for either.
Only at low tide. The boatman times the stop around the tide, but on some days the sandbar stays under water.
It runs most of the year, but from May to October trips can be cancelled when the sea is rough.
