Overview
Cross the channel south to Vaavu Atoll for a full day that packs in the Maldives' big-hitting marine encounters.
The first swim is with nurse sharks, which gather in the shallows and glide slowly beneath you; they're docile and used to snorkellers. Next comes a shipwreck lying in clear, shallow water, now covered in coral and reef fish.
At Fulidhoo, a small local island with a sandy harbour, stingrays sweep in around your legs in knee-deep water, and you have time to walk the village streets. Lunch is on a sandbank, and on the way back the crew watches for dolphins. Snorkel gear and lunch are included, and the guide briefs you at each stop.

Nurse sharks are slow, bottom-dwelling sharks and are not considered dangerous to snorkellers. Follow the guide's briefing, keep your hands to yourself and never touch or feed them.
The open-water crossing to Vaavu can be bumpy on windy days. If you get seasick, take something before you leave and sit towards the back of the boat.
You should be comfortable in the water with a mask and snorkel. Life jackets are available, and the guide stays with the group in the water.
