West Madeira 4x4 Jeep Tour: Cabo Girão, Fanal and Porto Moniz
Overview
See the wild west of Madeira in a day, with some of the driving done off-road where ordinary coaches can't go. Your driver-guide picks you up in Funchal and heads first to Cabo Girão, where a glass skywalk juts out 580 metres above the sea.
From there you climb onto the Paul da Serra plateau and follow forest tracks to Fanal, where centuries-old laurel trees stand in open grassland, often wrapped in drifting mist. Then it's down to the north coast and Porto Moniz, famous for its natural swimming pools in the black lava rock: stop for lunch and a swim in summer.
The return follows the north coast via Seixal, with its black-sand beach below green cliffs, before crossing the mountains back to Funchal. Groups are small, since the jeeps are, and the order of stops may change with the weather.
