Oistins Friday Night Fish Fry
Overview
On Friday nights the fishing town of Oistins, on the south coast, turns into the island's favourite party. Dozens of stalls and beach huts fire up their grills, the music gets louder, and locals and visitors share long tables to eat fish that came off the boats that day.
This evening outing gets you there and back without the hassle of parking or finding a taxi late at night. Your host explains how the fish fry works, which stalls to try and what to order: grilled or fried flying fish, dolphin fish (mahi mahi), marlin, tuna, kingfish or swordfish, served with macaroni pie, rice and peas, coleslaw or chips and a splash of Bajan pepper sauce. Wash it down with a Banks beer or a rum punch.
After dinner there's time to wander the craft stalls, watch the older couples dancing to old-time tunes by the stage, or join in. It's loud, friendly and very Bajan. The slightly quieter Saturday night version is an option too.
