Hotel Regina Palace
Overview
The Regina Palace has stood on Stresa's lakefront since 1908, facing the Borromean Islands. It's a true Belle Époque grand hotel, with chandeliers, gilded ceilings and Liberty-style salons, yet it's comfortable rather than stiff.
Behind the hotel is a large park with an outdoor pool, loungers and parasols, a tennis court and a poolside bistro, Le Grill, for light lunches. Inside there's a heated indoor pool set in an artificial grotto, a gym, a sauna and a Turkish bath. The 214 rooms look over either the lake and the islands or the gardens. Dinner is served in the Charleston restaurant, and drinks in Bar 1900 off the lobby.
Stresa's centre and the boat piers for the islands are a short walk along the promenade. It's a good choice if you want space, a big pool and a classic lake view, and for families as much as couples.
