Overview
Hotel Michelangelo sits on Corso Italia, Sorrento's main street, a few minutes' walk from the railway station and Piazza Tasso, yet it feels like a quiet retreat once you're through the gates. The building grew around a 16th-century watchtower, which now holds three of the suites.
There are two places to swim: a garden pool framed by flowers and balconies, and a rooftop pool with a sun terrace looking out to the hills. Up on the roof, the sky bar serves drinks until sunset, and the panoramic terrace catches a view of the sea.
Rooms range from classic doubles with a balcony to suites and family rooms, some looking over the pool or towards the sea. The hotel has two restaurants serving local dishes with a modern touch, and you can choose bed and breakfast or half board. From the door you can walk to the shops and restaurants of the old town, or pick up the train to Pompeii and the ferries to Capri and the Amalfi Coast.
