Overview
Hotel La Bussola stands on Amalfi's seafront promenade, in a restored pasta mill from the early 1900s. The old building keeps its thick tuff walls and high ceilings, so rooms are bright and airy. The same family has run it as a hotel since 1963.
The location is hard to beat: a few steps from the sea and about 100 metres from the ferry pier, the bus terminal and the cathedral square, so you can explore the whole coast without a car. Rooms come in six types, from courtyard-view doubles to sea-view Superior rooms, Deluxe rooms with a terrace and junior suites, many with colourful majolica floors.
La Bussola sul Mare, the hotel restaurant, serves traditional and Mediterranean dishes on a sea-view veranda and is accredited for gluten-free dining, with vegan and lactose-free options. Have a drink on the Sea Waves terrace or in the Salotti lounge bar. Unusually for central Amalfi, the hotel has its own car park, and staff help with parking.
