La Pirogue
Overview
La Pirogue is a 4★ resort on the long beach at Flic en Flac, on the sunny west coast, with the mountains of the south-west on the horizon. Instead of blocks, you stay in one of 248 thatched cottages spread through tropical gardens, each with its own outdoor space and a view of the garden, the lagoon or the beach.
The resort leans into Mauritian life. Expect fresh seafood and curries, séga shows, live music and beach movie nights. Wolmar serves buffet breakfasts and evening buffets with live cooking stations; the Coconut Café does local street food, pizzas and fresh juices near the pool; and the Van Der Stel Wine Bar pours around 60 wines by the glass. There's a large lagoon pool, a children's pool, a kids' club with daily activities, and water sports on the beach.
You can also use the restaurants, bars and pool at Sugar Beach, the sister resort next door. All-inclusive plans are available, and trips to see dolphins off Tamarin, Casela and Chamarel are all close by. The airport is around an hour away.
