Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa

Canonnier Beachcomber stands on its own peninsula at Pointe aux Canonniers, just west of Grand Baie, looking out to the northern islands. The resort is set in a 17-acre tropical garden with cascading pools and creeks, and the site's history is still there to explore: old fortifications, cannons and a lighthouse.

It is one of the island's best-known family resorts. A free Kids Club runs activities for ages 3 to 11, there's a free Teen Club for 12 to 17, and a baby care area for parents of under-3s. Babysitting can be arranged. Accommodation includes family rooms and two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments.

There are three restaurants, including Navigator with views of the northern islands, and a spa with six treatment rooms built into the branches of a banyan tree that is around 200 years old. Many land and water sports are included, as is a mini-golf course designed by Peter Matkovich; there is also a dive centre on site. An all-inclusive package is available, and guests can dine at other Beachcomber hotels and get preferential access to two 18-hole golf courses.
