Quinta dos Vales Winery Tour & Tasting
Overview
The Algarve makes more than beach days, and Quinta dos Vales is the place to taste it. This 44-hectare wine estate near Estômbar, between Lagoa and Portimão, has 19 hectares of vines and doubles as an open-air art gallery, with large sculptures of elephants, hippos, bears and dancers dotted around the grounds.
The guided tour takes you through the winery, where the guide explains how the wines are made, and down into the barrel cellar, where the reds mature for up to 12 months in oak. It ends with a guided tasting of four of the estate's wines, served with fresh bread and local olive oil, as you learn how to look at, smell and taste each one.
Tours run Monday to Friday at 2.30 pm, and you get a discount in the wine shop on the day. Take time afterwards to walk the sculpture garden.
