Elafonisi Pink Sand Beach Day Trip
Overview
In Crete's far south-west corner, Elafonisi is a protected beach where a sandbar joins the mainland to a small island. The water is shallow and warm, and in places the sand turns pink from crushed shells, especially along the water's edge.
You're picked up in the Chania area and driven across the west of the island, through olive groves and mountain villages. Depending on the operator, the route stops at the Chrysoskalitissa monastery, perched on a rock above the sea, or at the cave of Agia Sofia in the Topolia gorge. Then you have around three hours at Elafonisi to paddle across to the island, swim in the lagoon and find a quiet spot on the dunes.
Elafonisi is a Natura 2000 protected area, so please leave the pink sand where it is.
