Corfu Old Town Food and Culture Walk
Overview
Corfu Town is best understood through its food, which carries traces of four centuries of Venetian rule and fifty years of British protection. On this small-group walk, a local guide takes you through the UNESCO-listed old town, stopping at family-run bakeries, delis and tavernas along the way.
You start by the Old Fortress and cross the Spianada to the Liston arcades, then weave through the lanes to the Church of St Spyridon, the island's patron saint, and the square of the old Town Hall. Between the sights you taste your way through the island's kitchen: cheese and spinach pies, local olive oil with spices, pastitsada, cured meats and cheeses, honey, ouzo, Corfiot ginger beer and kumquat liqueur, ending with a seated lunch.
Come hungry. It's a relaxed pace, and you'll finish with plenty of ideas for where to eat for the rest of your stay.
