Cades Reef sail and snorkel by catamaran
Overview
If you want a relaxed day on the water, this is the one. You sail along Antigua's sheltered west coast, where the sea is usually calm, past Pelican Island to Cades Reef, a barrier reef that runs for about two miles off the southwest shore.
The catamaran anchors in shallow, clear water for around an hour of guided snorkelling. Look out for reef fish, turtles and rays among the coral. Back on board, the crew serves lunch at tables on deck, with juices, soft drinks, beer, wine and rum punch.
After lunch you stop at a white-sand beach for about an hour to swim, lie in the sun or explore the shore. Then the sails go up for the easy cruise home along the coast.
Depending on the boat, you're collected from the beach at a main west-coast hotel or check in at the harbour in St John's.
