Overview
Sandos Caracol is an all-inclusive eco-resort set in a patch of jungle that runs down to the sea, just north of Playa del Carmen. It's one of the few resorts on this coast with its own natural cenotes and mangroves. Paths wind between the rooms, and you'll spot birds and small animals along the way.
Families come for the water park, with 29 slides that range from gentle ones for small children to steep kamikaze drops. There's also a main pool with games during the day, quieter pools for reading, and a beach club by the sea. The daily programme includes cenote visits, mangrove walks, yoga, water sports and Maya-themed shows in the evening (times vary with maintenance and the weather).
The resort has buffets and à la carte restaurants, including a Brazilian steakhouse and Asian dishes, plus several bars. Rooms range from standard doubles to family rooms, villas and suites, and the resort uses solar energy. An adults-only Select area has its own pool, restaurant and beach club. The spa and some premium drinks cost extra.
