Overview
Malta's clear, warm water makes it one of the best places in Europe to breathe underwater for the first time, and this introductory session needs no experience at all.
It runs with Dive Systems, an SSI Diamond dive centre on the water's edge in Sliema. After a short briefing, an instructor fits you with the equipment and takes you into shallow, sheltered water. There you practise the basics, such as clearing your mask and recovering your regulator, before you swim off to explore.
Groups are small, with a maximum of four divers per instructor, and the whole experience takes two to three hours. It's open to anyone from the age of eight who is comfortable in the water.
If you love it, the session counts towards the SSI Scuba Diver or Open Water courses, which you can complete during the rest of your holiday. Just bring a towel, swimwear, water and a change of clothes.
