Rafting through the green Ayung valley

Overview

The Ayung is Bali's longest river, and the stretch near Ubud is the island's most popular rafting run. It is a great half-day adventure for families and first-timers, with grade II–III rapids that are exciting without being extreme.

After pickup from your hotel, you arrive at the rafting base, get your helmet, life jacket and paddle, and have a safety briefing with your guide. Then walk down to the river and set off. For about two hours you paddle through a deep, green gorge past rice terraces, jungle, waterfalls and stone carvings in the rock walls, with calm stretches between the rapids to take it all in.

At the finish, climb back up to the base for a hot shower and a buffet lunch before the drive back to your hotel. You will get wet, so wear swimwear or quick-dry clothes and bring a change of clothes.
