Bamboo Rafting on the White River, Ocho Rios
Overview
Bamboo rafting is one of Jamaica's oldest visitor experiences: long rafts once carried bananas down to the coast, and today they carry you. On the White River, just outside Ocho Rios, you sit back on a seat for two while a raft captain poles you gently downstream.
The White River takes its name from the pale limestone that lines its bed, and the water is clear enough to see the stones below. As you drift between overhanging trees and banana plants, your captain points out plants and birds and tells stories about the river.
It's a slow, peaceful hour on the water, ideal for couples, families and anyone who wants a break from the beach without an early start or a big climb. Combine it with Dunn's River Falls or the Blue Hole, which are both nearby, for a full day.
