Atlantis Submarine Reef and Wreck Dive
Overview
See the reefs of Barbados without getting wet. Atlantis Submarines has been diving off Bridgetown since 1987, and its battery-powered, air-conditioned submarine takes you down to as deep as 150 feet (about 45 metres), far below where most snorkellers and many divers ever go.
The trip starts with a short boat ride from the Shallow Draught harbour in Bridgetown out to the submarine. Once you've climbed aboard and taken your seat by one of the large viewports, the dive lasts around 40 to 45 minutes, with live commentary from the crew. Watch coral fans, parrotfish, angelfish and horse-eye jacks drift past, look out for hawksbill turtles and stingrays, and circle the coral-covered Lord Willoughby shipwreck, which lies at around 120 feet.
The whole experience takes about 90 minutes from check-in to return. It suits all ages above the minimum height, and it's a good option for anyone who doesn't swim. A night dive with powerful spotlights is also available.
