Stingray City: swim with southern stingrays
Overview
Stand waist-deep in clear water while southern stingrays glide in to meet you. It's one of Antigua's most popular trips, and one children remember for years.
The experience starts at the land base in Seatons village on the northeast coast, where guides explain how to behave around the rays. Then a five-minute speedboat ride between the offshore islands takes you to a shallow, sandy-bottomed pool surrounded by coral reef. The rays aren't fenced in; they come to meet the boat.
Step off the floating platform and either stand or swim. With your guide, you can hold and feed the rays and learn how they live. Afterwards there's time to snorkel over the nearby reef among tropical fish.
Back on land, rinse off in an outdoor shower under the coconut palms and enjoy a complimentary rum punch or fruit punch. Photos of your encounter are available to buy.
