Overview
El Greco is a large four-star resort on the edge of Fira, a few minutes' walk from the centre of the capital, its caldera views and its restaurants. Whitewashed Cycladic buildings with arched terraces are spread around the grounds, and from the upper levels you can see across to the caldera.
This is a resort for pool lovers: there are five outdoor freshwater pools, a children's pool and two outdoor jacuzzis. The Lotus Spa, which the hotel describes as the largest on the island, adds an indoor pool and treatments. La Pergola serves Santorinian, Greek and international dishes, Ampelos focuses on Cycladic cooking, and the Aeolos pool bar keeps the drinks coming.
Rooms range from standard and superior doubles to junior suites, loft suites and two-bedroom villas. Breakfast is an American buffet. It's a practical base if you want to walk into Fira in the evening and use the bus hub to reach the beaches and villages.
